My PhD research was in computer science and complexity science, although I also published in web-technologies (and even paleontology!) I have founded, run and sold a high-tech business based on my research and written two technical text-books published by Elsevier.
Mini Bio
Ideme is a technology for building large-scale simulations of human behavior.
It works by taking demographic data and building simulated populations with the same demographic properties. These populations are linked together in social, family and work networks in a realistic manner. Events can be introduced at any point on this network, and the results observed. By running many simulations, the software shows the likelihood of a range of possible outcomes, enabling risk management and the identification of critical success factors.
The psychological model used accurately simulates fads, fashions and trends, including effects such as brand loyalty and advertising.
A specialized version of the technology, Beyond Reach is used to predict how peer-to-peer relationships will affect the reach and repetitions of conventional advertising. I have also used the technology in research projects that look at viral marketing, and the long-tail phenomenon.
